Dual - Fall
CEE recordings

Fall is the second in a series of CD's to feature live / archive material by Dual. This release captures a live performance at the Drone Records festival held at The Podewil in Berlin, Germany in April 2000. It includes six tracks; aringe, 70dN, baanstan, cee, mbe and rogacoln with a total playing time of just under 36 minutes.

The release is presented on two 3" CDR's in a stunning long format clear case with hand assembled transparency prints of a still taken from the film Links (by regular Dual collaborator GR.) The film was originally projected as a backdrop at the show in Berlin. This release is a limited run of 100 individually numbered cd's on the CEE label and will therefore be available for a short period only.

Part composed and part improvised this performance includes scattered light rhythms meeting punched slabs of bass over and under a washed out blissful drone of chords. Percussive clicks form into motorised gyres to round off the first disc. Metallic scrapes and waves of clouded shrills begin disc two, leading into a fractured soundscape of tearing screams and mournful unquantised static waves. Gas like haze drifts in until a low pulse and a lifting hum of tension rise's with a distorted clatter to finish.

Ltd quantites of the Fall CD were available at the recent Dual show in London on 21st November at the midRange event hosted by Coombe Records and CEE recordings. Many people took advantage of this special pre-release offer and therefore its recommended anyone wishing to pick up a copy of the ltd CD should place an immediate order to guarantee a copy.

Available as always through the Coombe records distribution network and available from exclusive Coombe Records / Dual stockists.

Dual live

Dual will play one final show this year. This will be at a special midRange club night in London and hosted by Coombe Records and CEE Recordings. The event will feature a packed line-up of sound artists, musicians, dj's & filmmakers from around the globe.

Coombe Records & CEE present: midRange
An evening of phonography, new experimental electronic music & film

Fractured clicks, collaged rhythms, drifting electronic soundscapes, harmonious tones & atonal drones with special guests:

Troum [Transgredient / Staalplaat / Drone Records] - (GER)
Pawel Grabowski [Flat Music / ArtGenda] - (PL)
Dual [Drone Records / Coombe / CEE] - (UK)
iD [ex-Headbutt / Project Dark / Evelyn Records] - (UK)
. m u r m e r [Bake / Absurd / Resonance FM] - (US)

plus DJ's
iMAX [SLOW SOUND SYSTEM] - (UK)
midRange residents - (UK)

Film and visuals by
iMAX [SLOW SOUND SYSTEM] - (UK)
GR. [Coombe / Fat Cat] - (UK)
Brown Sierra [Noisegate / Atavistic Ratchets] - (UK)

Troum from Bremen, North Germany performing at their first ever UK show as part of a mini UK tour. Troum's creations are influenced by post-industrial, minimal and drone-music. Both members use guitars, bass, voices, accordion, gongs, metals, field recordings, pre-recorded-tapes and a diversity of sound-objects to build a kind of multi-layered and highly atmospheric dreaming-muzak.

Pawel Grabowski is a Polish born, Irish based electroacoustic musician and composer. His current realisations are based on field recordings manipulated using a G3 powerbook laptop and broken violin, number of contact microphones and different objects. Various releases available on SINE and Laub records, plus a forthcoming release on Mystery Sea.

Dual use only guitars, fx and electronics to achieve various forms of mood and atmosphere whether it is percussive, drone or somewhere in between. Dual will be wrapping up a busy year of live performances having played live shows in Greece, Poland and a small tour of Japan and will be promoting a new double 3" cd 'Fall' on the CEE label.

iD aka Ashley Davies will be taking time out from his busy schedule with avant rock 'n' noise turntablists Project Dark. iD is a project that primarily uses sound gleaned from a tone generator, which is crafted into vast swathes of swirling piercing sound and rhythmic pulses. Sometimes blistering, sometimes fragile, the music is formed into a journey that drowns the senses. More is more, an excercise in maximalism.

. m u r m e r . is Patrick McGinley, an American born musician and theatre artist who has lived and worked in Europe since 1996. The concentration of his work is on the framing of sounds from our environment which normally pass through our ears unnoticed and unremarked, but which out of context become unrecognisable, alien and extraordinary. He is a co-founder and chairman of Framework, an organisation that produces a biweekly radio show on London’s Resonance FM and organises and promotes live events for artists working in the realm of field recording and phonography.

iMAX is a member of the SLOW SOUND SYSTEM collective of djs, producers and artists exploring digitals, audioscapes, collage and pixel manipulation. SLOW SOUND SYSTEM run an irregular slow club, a space for relaxed audio and video experiments in London and also broadcast live on Resonance FM. iMAX will show various images and Flash animation films as well as playing a dj set.

GR. has recently worked on videos with Fat Cat artists Process and Dorine Muraille and has co produced a short film 'Car Park' under the name Cassette41 that have been shown at various festivals worldwide. The images are shot on digital / film and photographic stills are incorporated to create a textural landscape. GR. has also collaborated with Dual producing images for live concerts.

Brown Sierra is Paddy Collins and Pia Gambardella, two sound artists based in London that experiment with self made instruments and electronics and film. Their image work is shot on Super8 film, video and reflected slide projections, layering - abstract vs. emblematic - moving or static with lush unique textures. They also edit and publish the infamous sound art magazine Noisegate and run the label National Express where you can find their many releases.

RESONANCE FM FRIDAY 18th July 2003

Johny Brown of The Band of Holy Joy has been playing Dual regularly on his daytime radio show Mining For Gold on Resonance FM and has kindly invited Dual back to play on his lunchtime show. midRange

Meanwhile Colin Bradley joins the midRange evening at the Foundry in East London for more carefully dissected slipping cracked, clipped and piercing sonic silence.

Coombe Records present... midRange

An evening of self made electronic instruments, raw fuzzed out country, harmonious, fractured and glitched sound textures, and new experimental films with live music provided by......

MOTION (12k / Fat Cat)
Motion forms a distinctive and profound infused atmosphere, constructing a terrain of minimal ambient textured drones coupled with static clicks and glitches. Listen carefully as you'll miss the subtleness of micro fractures of pulsing sound. Motion have many imaculate releases on labels including 12k, Fat Cat and 8bit Records.

www.fat-cat.co.uk

BROWN SIERRA (National Express / Noise Gate)
Brown Sierra are Paddy Collins and Pia Gambardella, two sound artists based in London that experiment with self made instruments and electronics. The sounds consists of pulsating tones, (ir)regular clicks, squeaks and dictaphone scramble. Their technique of building slabs of hard / soft, subtle and slow moving tracts of sound is unique. They also edit and publish the infamous sound art magazine Noisegate and run the label National Express where you can find their many releases. www.noisegate.org.uk

THE REBEL (Country Teasers)
Ben R Wallers (The Rebel), is guitarist / singer with the outlandish four piece, Country Teasers, renowned for their own brand of 'alternative country' naturally producing new music in the historical vein. 'The group never approach country & western with an ironic attitude: it is the medium through which they produce music, in the same way that a blues singer produces music via blues' …Fat Possum Records. The Rebel's take on country blues is a twisted world of self indulgent cynicism with sounds produced from found objects utilised in a strange, 'electronic' way, complementing the drifting guitar ballads of a dark nature!
You can find out more about Country Teasers at

Images & short films:

BROWN SIERRA (National Express / Noise Gate)
image work is shot on Super8 film, video and reflected slide projections, layering - abstract vs emblematic, - moving or static with lush unique textures. www.noisegate.org.uk

GR. (cassette41 / cLOde)
Working as cassette41, GR. co-created the film Car Park, a short film experimenting with the dynamic space in a deserted car park after hours, providing an overall sense of haunting bewilderment. Prior to this, cassette41 made a video for the music artist Process, taking everyday urban scenes and creating a calmer, overall choppy texture, both of which has been shown at various European film festivals, The Hospital festival in Brighton and The Horse Hospital in London. Collaborating with Colin Bradley from Dual, cLOde has produced images for live Dual concerts. www.coomberecords.com

interval DJ's:

COLIN BRADLEY (Dual / Coombe)...

Firstly Dual will play a one off show with iD and S.40 SoundProject at the Small Music Theatre in Athens, Greece on 4th March 2003. This will be a taster of a future project that is still in the planning stages for a small tour of Europe that will commence in the summer 2003. The shows will feature individual sets from each artist then a joint collaborative effort as a finale to the evening.

Dual will play a solo show featuring electric guitar, laptop computer and electronics with live sampling of the sounds as they unfold.
iD is a project that primarily uses sound gleaned from a tone generator, which is crafted into vast swathes of swirling piercing sound and a-rhythmic pulses. Sometimes blistering, sometimes fragile, the music is formed into a journey that drowns the senses.
S.40 SoundProject has been in existence over 30 years and yet never before performed live. With the sound source a 2300 model Arp, beautiful microtonal landscapes of sound rise easily into dreamlike states to seduce and confound like an ancient Greek myth. Based on ancient Greek musical theories, S.40's music is both oppressive and uplifting.

Please get in touch if you can offer a show.

Coombe Records present...

midRange

An evening of mixed eclectic beats, electronics & abstract sound, with music provided by the following DJ's:

Fred Caïou (Dorp)
Has been a regular dj at various Coombe organised events and we welcome him back to play a mixture of melodic, slow and soothing seamless electronica.
thorsten sideb0ard (8bit records / tsk! tsk! / Highpoint Lowlife)
plays a blend of digital fuzzed out shoegaze and electronic soundscapes, fusing the soaring elements and emotion of post-rock with the technique and aesthetic of generative computer music. Thorsten ran the seminal electronica club Node for two years in San Francisco, before relocating to London where he now manages two labels, Highpoint Lowlife records with Joey Hurt, and tsk! tsk! records with Lisa Blanning and on top of that, 8bitrecs.com.
Ugen (Crowd Formation)
is a member of the insine.net collective and will be playing textured sonics including booty bass, fractured funk, liquid noise, love dub. Ugen are preparing to release on several labels too: Ref. High Templars, FM Operator, and others. Alleged but unconfirmed links to the Crowd Formation sonic deformation lab.
Colin Bradley (Dual / Coombe)
is the main founder of Dual. Having appeared on various albums, 7" records and compilation CD's on Drone Records, Dirter, Fourth Dimension, Suggestion, Evelyn Records, Discus and CEE. Colin play's a selection of treated reverb drenched clipped slow beats resampled with washed out beautiful textured noise. Expect to hear within the rich colourful soundtrack artists such as porter ricks, disjecta, funkstorung, main, techno animal, motion, bark psychosis, stylus, gramm, iD, komet, mum, stars of the lid & more.
Clode (Coombe)
Clode have previously played at the midRange events and will be appearing on the Coombe Records compilation to be released soon. You'll probably hear the definitive meeting point of eclectic space dub and fractured sounds.

Colin Bradley (Dual / Coombe)...
is the main founder of Dual and has appeared on various albums, 7" records and compilation CD's on Drone Records, Dirter, Fourth Dimension, Discus and CEE. An evening of improvised electronic sound loops, subtle feedback, guitar drones, laptops & tone generators

Live music performances by
Antenna Farm (Fat Cat / Phthalo)...
use a range of electronic and location sound sources, digital manipulation and guitars to create a flow of rhythms and feedback loops & drones. Antenna Farm have releases on Phthalo Records, Hobby Industries and Fat Cat Records.

Dual (Coombe / Drone Records / CEE)
Dual's sound source is entirely from guitars, live and manipulated utilising laptop, live sampling and fx. The end result; morphing layered textures of treated guitar sounds and atonal drones with static metronomic clicks and pops. To complement the music, a constant motion drift of warping imagery is projected as a backdrop.

iD (Ashley Davies / Project Dark)
iD is a project that primarily uses sound gleaned from a tone generator, which is crafted into vast swathes of swirling piercing sound and rhythmic pulses. Sometimes blistering, sometimes fragile, the music is formed into a journey that drowns the senses. More is more, an excercise in maximalism. iD is Ashley Davies (Project Dark, Headbutt, C4i, Chemical Plant, Ohms and Watts) and has recorded for many labels including Speeding Across My Hemisphere, Larmnerv, Evelyn Records, TM Industries, as well as self releasing nearly 30 CDr's in the Sideshow Series.

Images & short films by
Brown Sierra (Noisegate Magazine)...
collectively run the 'sound art' magazine, 'Noisegate', and whom are also sound artists using self made instruments and electronics. Various releases are available on the National Express label. Their image work is shot on Super 8 film, video and reflected slide projections, layering - abstract vs emblematic - moving or static, unique textures. Sometimes with a raw soundtrack or sometimes just silence. The short films showing are: Road Surface, Lamictogen, Pattern Perception and Resonance Imagery. Brown Sierra films have also been shown at Atavistic Ratchets and Maxis 2002.
